Public holiday "Australia Day"

Day off school. We went together with our host family to two beaches in Gold Coast - the Spit and Broadwater Park. We also met Kana this morning – she is a Japanese student who also lives at the family. She is very friendly and a bit shy.

Ida and I were wondering why the host mom always was a little bit distant and sometimes she did not answer us when we asked about something or sad thank you for dinner. Now we found out that she (most likely) has trouble with her hearing, which explains why it got awkward to be with her sometimes.

We also met the daughter of the family, Sophie, who is 21 years old. She has a really strong Australian accent so it is hard for Ida and I to keep up when she is talking. Additionally she has hearing problems (for sure) and often she cannot hear what we are saying too.

After showering at home we went with Don to the supermarket, where we were asked to point out what food and drink we like and disliked, so he could get an impression of what to buy to us.

Dinner: Corned beef with a white sauce of boiled cauliflower and cheese, peas and baked potatoes
