Surfers Paradise Beach

Today we were hitting the beach at surfers Paradise again with the rest of our class. We were there for at least 6 hours, but we only went to the water 1 time, as you could not even swim because of the wild waves. We really haven’t done anything but laying in the sun. We actually saw the surf lifesavers in action when a man was caught in a rip in the water. Everyone got up from the water and watched it and clapped when they had rescued the man - really incredible to experience

My nose was all burned but luckily its almost gone - now I got my back really burned

We ate a big watermelon to lunch and for dinner we went to a nice Italian restaurant in surfers Paradise were you went to the chef yourself to get your meal made while watching - pretty cool.

Don was so sweet to pick us up at 7.30 to drive Helena and us back home.

Dinner: Tuna/egg salad at Vapiano

Activity day: surfer life saving

Today we had an activity day at school, where we went to Surfers Paradise to learn about surfer life saving. We made competitions on the beach and got body boards to have fun in the wild waves.

Afterwards we all stayed at the beach, bought watermelon and played Volleyball for hours.

But but but when the clock was 5 pm and we decided to go home, it was one big mess with the busses. First we could not find any bus stops, then we took a bus in the wrong direction and other busses we needed were not driving after 5 – so, Helena Ida and I took a cap home.

Dinner: Chinese food – chicken spears, spring rolls, fried met balls, oven-baked potatoes and soya

Visiting Helena and Kirstine's homestay

Another day in school, the air condition is way to cool for us, as we are not used to it. After school we went home to Helena’s house for the first time. She has the most amazing host mom who is just so down to earth and easy to talk to. They have a dog named Tashy – I have never seen such a happy little puddle puppy before – really cute. Afterwards Helena went home with us for dinner and a swim in the pool.

Unfortunately Kirstine will first arrive in Australia in 2 weeks time caused her grandmother's poor health at the moment - so Kirstine of course wants to be with her and her family in case she would have to say goodbye to her grandmother.

Dinner: Barbecue food – sausages, chicken and beef with salad and oven baked potatoes

First day at Griffith University

First day at school. Today we were introduced to Griffith’s place and rules. We got a good laugh when our host mom had packed our lunch in two pink lunch bags with princesses and fairies.
We got our Go Cards (for transport). We’re paying full price instead of getting student discount ‘cause Griffith does not see us as “real” students but only contemporary students.

Another issue was the Internet provided by the school. Apparently we have limited access to the Internet meaning that we only have 1 GB to use in the next 8 weeks.

Dinner: Roasted chicken with pumpkin, sweet potatoes, beans, gravy and boiled corns

Shopping at Australia Fair

Today was the first school day where we had lessons. The teachers are so kind and they are really surprised by how great the Danes are at speaking English – though they dislike that we all got the American accent (they said with the tongue in their cheek of course).

Today we went to the mall in Southport called Australia Fair where we got our prepaid phone card. For the fun of it we also tried to go to a kiosk to ask for a student go card and showed our name badge we got from school hoping they would allow us to buy the student go card instead of the full priced card. Luckily they bought it and we now pay the half of the price when we take the bus.

Regarding the issue with the Internet provided by the school, then they were willing to give us 5 GB instead of 1 GB, as we would not be able to upload any assignments with only 1 GB.

Today I got really sunburned from yesterday. My arm looked funny because I put more sun cream on one spot than the other area of my arm.

Dinner: Spaghetti with chicken and turkey bacon in tomato sauce with salad
